BATU PAHAT: An argument between two friends on Facebook spilled over from cyberspace and led to the killing of a teenager outside a shopping complex here.
Aw Soon Ming (pic), 17, was stabbed with a knife on his abdomen and chest about 9.30pm on Saturday by a man who had an online feud with Aw's friend.
Apparently, the man arrived at the com- plex with a few companions to look for Aw's friend, who allegedly posted some disparaging remarks on the social network.
The friend was nowhere at the shopping mall but Aw was. It was unclear how the argument between Aw and the man turned fatal.
A witness told police that Aw was hit by one of the youths who came with the suspect.
A verbal fight erupted before the suspect took out the knife and stabbed Aw, who was at the mall with a group of friends.
District police chief Asst Comm Din Ahmad said Aw died on arrival at the Batu Pahat Hospital.
“An 18-year-old boy has been remanded and we are looking for a 25-year-old man and three others to assist us in our investigations,” he said.
Police found a knife, believed to be the murder weapon, near the scene.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 for murder and police are appealing to members of public who have information about the case to assist them.
At the mortuary, Aw's mother, who only wanted to be known as Fong, said her youngest son's death was a shock to her.
“I do not know what actually happened. I only know that he received many calls from friends about 7pm on Saturday and went out on his motorbike,” the 54-year-old cleaner told reporters.
