A young California father who had been locked out of his house was
impaled by glass and bled to death while attempting to climb in through a
window, authorities said.
Kyle Fortunato, 28, was found hanging from an apartment window Friday
night after he had attempted to crawl back into his kitchen through the
window.
“He was a nice guy, he went to work,” a neighbor told local television station CBS13. “He was good to his girlfriend and his daughter.”
Investigators are calling Fortunato’s death an accident, but some of
his neighbors are suspicious, saying that they heard gunshots in the
area the night of his death. There were rumors that Fortunado and his
girlfriend Mariko Laurin had been in an argument, according to local Fox
affiliate KTXL.
In a post to Fortunado’s Facebook account that appears to be written by Laurin, she shot down these
rumors.
“Kyle is no longer with us. I am telling you this, because I don’t
want you to believe the vicious rumors of the gunshot, or there was a
‘lover’s spat’ between us. It was an unfortunate accident that he was
taken from us too soon,” she wrote.
According to his Facebook page Fortunado was a landscaper. He and Laurin had an 18-month-old daughter.
